A collision of theatrical poetry and musical imagination, this thoughtful and hilarious production takes to the stage! Adapted from German novelist Patrick Süskind's novel, Mr. Sommer's Story (Süskind is widely known for his 1985 novel Perfume), this performance is a joint adaptation and interpretation by local renowned pianist Shelley Ng and talented Hong Kong theater actor Au Soeng Wai. It perfectly blends multiple perspectives of a village child and a mad piano teacher, reconstructing our current mad world with a playful peppery style. This is an opportunity to explore the true meaning of life through laughter!
Story Introduction
Mr. Xia is the village's well-known 'backpacker', always walking tirelessly around with an empty backpack on his back. The only sentence he ever utters in the entire story is, 'Please shut up.' Through the adorable visuals of children and terrifying piano lessons, along with experiences like being stood up by a girl he likes, the highly entertaining story is presented. With a unique approach, the audience is guided to reflect on the meaning of modern life — Are we endlessly busy, chasing a rabbit we can never catch up with? Is the sense of alienation in the adult world the norm in cities? How can we think about the direction and realization of the future, even breaking through the imagined future?
